Steam Giveaway and Gameplay

Free for 48 Hours, Yours Permanently
The promotion begins August 24 at 10:00 AM Pacific and lasts 48 hours.
Players only need to add the game to their account before the window closes. Once claimed, the license remains in their Steam library after Dokimon Quest returns to its normal price.
Yano has also warned that Steam wishlists may not send the usual notification for a 100% discount, making the short window worth noting in advance.
Five Years and Roughly 10,000 Hours of Development
Yano describes Dokimon Quest as a personal passion project built across five years and roughly 10,000 development hours.
The game launched in November 2024, but continued receiving updates over roughly two years as its developer refined systems, content, localization, and community feedback.
The free promotion is partly intended to bring in a much larger group of players whose feedback can inform the sequel.
144 Monsters Across Two Regions
Dokimon Quest packages its monster-taming systems inside a colorful pixel-art world strongly inspired by the Game Boy Color era.
Players can collect 144 Dokimon, travel through more than 15 towns, and explore caves, shrines, seas, mountains, and other routes while investigating the disappearance of the protagonist's childhood friend.
Post-game progression also expands the adventure into additional region content and rare-monster hunting.
Catching Wild Monsters Is Not the Only Option
One of Dokimon Quest's stranger mechanics allows players to obtain certain Bound Dokimon belonging to other trainers through the appropriate in-game items.
Battles remain turn-based, but modern conveniences include fast-forward controls, optional type-match guidance, a quest log, and menu-based management of monster stats and move pools.
Players can also choose from nine playable characters and multiple retro color palettes.
The Great Fairy Island DLC Is Also Discounted
Dokimon: The Great Fairy Island launched on May 13, 2026 and requires the base game.
The expansion adds a 3–5 hour side story, a new island, an underwater biome, Mythic Monster overworld encounters, and unlockable Hovercraft and Submarine vehicles.
Yanako RPGs plans to discount the DLC by 20% while the base game is free.
The Giveaway Leads Into Dokimon Quest II
Yanako RPGs has already revealed Dokimon Quest II, which continues the search for Maiko with a completely rebuilt battle system and a time-traveling adventure involving Edo-period Japan.
Yano says feedback from the first game's giveaway will be useful as work on the sequel continues.
The studio is also preparing Yami Kids, another monster-taming RPG with a darker tone.
Why This Matters
1) This is not a free weekend
Claiming the game adds a permanent license to the player's Steam account instead of temporarily unlocking it.
2) The giveaway comes after extensive post-launch work
New players are receiving the version that has already gone through roughly two years of continued updates.
3) It is also an entry point into the sequel
Dokimon Quest establishes the world and systems that Yanako RPGs is now expanding through Dokimon Quest II.
