Two Very Different Worlds Connected by the Same Kind of “Disturbance”

On the surface, GIRLS und PANZER and The End of Oak Street make for an unlikely pairing.

Garupan follows schoolgirls balancing everyday academy life with tank-based senshadō competition. The End of Oak Street follows an ordinary suburban family whose neighborhood suddenly becomes a dangerous environment filled with dinosaurs.

The promotional campaign found common ground in the gap between ordinary life and something wildly abnormal suddenly breaking into it.

The video begins in GIRLS und PANZER animation. Miho, Saori, and Yukari are traveling in a tank when they notice an unexplained phenomenon.

That leads to Yukari launching an investigation labeled 「秋山優花里の潜入!ピカッと異変だ!大作戦」, after which the video moves from the animated Garupan setting into live-action footage from The End of Oak Street.

Miho Still Thinks Like a Commander When Dinosaurs Appear

Once the group begins watching what is happening on Oak Street, the characters react to the increasingly dangerous situations facing the Platt family.

Saori responds more emotionally to the threats appearing on screen, while Miho remains notably tactical.

One of the promoted exchanges has Miho considering the need to gather weapons and prepare to stand against the dinosaurs.

It is an appropriately Garupan-style response. Even when confronted by something far removed from senshadō, Miho treats the situation as a problem that can be analyzed and prepared for.

Yukari is equally suited to leading the “infiltration” premise, given the investigative enthusiasm that has long been part of her characterization.

The crossover eventually reverses direction. Instead of the Garupan cast merely observing Oak Street, dinosaurs suddenly appear in everyday Ōarai for the video's final punchline.

The End of Oak Street Pits an Ordinary Family Against Dinosaurs

The End of Oak Street centers on the Platt family, who live an otherwise ordinary life in the peaceful residential community of Oak Street.

That normality begins collapsing as unexplained events occur. Water and power stop working, the neighborhood becomes isolated, and dinosaurs that should have been extinct appear and begin threatening the residents.

The family must survive while trying to understand and escape the situation surrounding them.

The film is produced by J.J. Abrams, with It Follows filmmaker David Robert Mitchell serving as writer and director.

Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor play Denise and Greg, with Maisy Stella as Audrey and Christian Convery as Brian.

The Japanese dub features Maaya Sakamoto as Denise, Toshiyuki Morikawa as Greg, Saori Hayami as Audrey, and Kosei Kimura as Brian.

The Film Opened August 14 and Led Japan's New Releases

The End of Oak Street opened simultaneously in Japan and the United States on August 14, 2026.

In Japan, the film launched across 352 theaters and 907 screens.

From August 14–16, it drew 180,079 admissions and generated ¥293.54 million at the box office.

Those numbers placed it first among films making their Japanese debut that weekend in both admissions and revenue.

The release is also available through a wide range of premium formats, including IMAX, 4DX, MX4D, SCREENX, ULTRA 4DX, and Dolby Cinema alongside conventional screenings.

The GIRLS und PANZER collaboration arrived immediately before that theatrical launch, positioning the crossover as a bridge between Japanese anime audiences and the new dinosaur adventure.

Garupan Is Also Heading Toward das Finale Part 5

The collaboration arrives during an important period for GIRLS und PANZER itself.

GIRLS und PANZER das Finale Part 5 is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on October 9, 2026.

Following Ōarai Girls' Academy's semifinal victory, the story moves into the final of the Winter Continuous Track Cup against St. Gloriana Girls' College, led by Darjeeling.

The confrontation becomes even more significant with Alice Shimada having transferred to St. Gloriana in order to face Miho again.

Part 5 is directed by Tsutomu Mizushima, with Reiko Yoshida writing the script, Fumikane Shimada credited with original character concepts, Isao Sugimoto handling character design and chief animation direction, and Actas producing the animation.

That places the Oak Street crossover less than two months before Garupan returns to theaters for one of the biggest battles in the das Finale storyline.

Why This Matters

1) The crossover actually has a thematic reason to exist

The genres could hardly be more different, but both works build drama from ordinary routines being disrupted by extraordinary events. The campaign uses that shared idea as its central joke.

2) The Garupan cast still behaves like the Garupan cast

Miho responds strategically, Yukari turns the mystery into an infiltration mission, and Saori supplies reactions as the danger escalates.

3) The video lets animation and live action cross in both directions

It begins inside GIRLS und PANZER, moves into The End of Oak Street footage, then brings the dinosaurs back into Ōarai for the ending.

4) It keeps Garupan visible ahead of Part 5

The collaboration gives Miho and the Anglerfish Team another promotional appearance shortly before das Finale Part 5 begins its Japanese theatrical run.
