Yuu Sits at the Center of a 10–15 Minute Story

DISK-Y asks the player to show Yuu, a new transfer student, around school and become a source of emotional support.

Steam hints that the relationship soon moves beyond ordinary school conversation. Players are given the freedom to accept or reject a deeper connection with Yuu's inner state, making choice an important part of the brief experience.

The game can stand on its own, but its Steam description suggests that learning more about the wider world brings players closer to a hidden truth.

A PC-98 Look Built Around 320×240 Pixels

DISK-Y deliberately evokes Japanese computer games from the 1990s.

Its presentation is built around a 320×240 canvas, strong pixel-art colors, minimalist interfaces, and FM sound. Steam's current user tags also include 1990s, retro, psychological, horror, psychedelic, and text-based.

Rather than placing a retro filter over a modern interface, the project restricts its screen and audio language to create something closer to period computer software.

It Was Previously Shown Running From a Floppy Disk and Browser

Before the Steam page opened, びぶ/viv had already presented DISK-Y as an experiment capable of running through a floppy disk and a browser.

That version was built using Happy Dream Maker, while both its graphics and music were designed to move closer to the PC-98 era.

Steam is now the game's main announced digital release, but the floppy experiment makes clear that its retro approach goes beyond surface aesthetics.

NINOMIYA Yuji Handles the FM Soundtrack

NINOMIYA Yuji is responsible for the music, using an FM-focused approach to reinforce the Japanese retro-computer atmosphere.

A separate DISK-Y Original Soundtrack is also scheduled for November. It contains four FM arrangements: “This Game Is Not Real,” “Happy Dream Maker,” “Merge State,” and “Losing Our Shapes.”

Together, the four tracks run for roughly 13 minutes.

Five Languages Are Supported

Steam lists interface and subtitle support for Japanese, English, Korean, Italian, and Vietnamese.

Indonesian is not currently supported, and no language is marked for full voice acting. Given the 10–15 minute structure, localization is centered primarily on text and visual presentation.

Why This Matters

1) The retro idea extends beyond graphics

The 320×240 presentation, pixel art, FM audio, and earlier floppy-disk experiment make the PC-98 influence part of the project's format rather than just its visual filter.

2) It is extremely short but still choice-driven

A 10–15 minute runtime places DISK-Y firmly in short-form interactive fiction, while player decisions still shape the experience.

3) The music gets its own release

NINOMIYA Yuji's four FM arrangements will also be released separately, reinforcing audio as one of DISK-Y's defining elements.
