The English Dub Arrives More Than Six Years Later

Ascendent Animation first confirmed in July 2026 that it had licensed Overflow and would produce an English dub.

At the time, the company only said the localized version would premiere on OceanVeil later in the year.

OceanVeil has now provided the missing date. `[Dub] Overflow` is listed for August 22, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time in the service's Coming Soon schedule.

Ascendent Animation has also reiterated through its official social account that the dub is arriving this weekend.

For an anime that originally premiered in early 2020, that creates a gap of more than six years between the Japanese release and its first officially announced English-language dub.

Ryan Hoyle, Elizabeth Ryan, and Mana T. Johnson Lead the Cast

The English version replaces the central Japanese performances with a newly assembled dub cast.

Ryan Hoyle voices university student Kazushi Sudou, while Elizabeth Ryan plays Ayane Shirakawa and Mana T. Johnson voices her younger sister Kotone Shirakawa.

The additional announced cast includes:

  • Steve Warky Nunez — Referee
  • Meredith Nudo — Announcer
  • Angel Haven Rey — Girl 1
  • Brittany Skyy Juilfs — Girl 2
  • Chloe Eves — Girl 3

Chloe Eves has also been reported as directing the English version.

In the original Japanese anime, Sadai Tsukuda voices Kazushi, Tomoe Tamiyasu plays Ayane, and Mitsu Anzu plays Kotone.

The new production therefore gives OceanVeil viewers a second audio option for a series that has historically been associated with those Japanese performances.

The Original Anime Is an Eight-Episode Short Series

Overflow began broadcasting in Japan on January 5, 2020 and completed its run after eight short episodes in February.

Rei Ishikura directed the adaptation, with Eeyo Kurosaki handling scripts, Yoshihiro Watanabe credited for character design, and studio HōKIBOSHI producing the animation.

The anime is based on work by Kaiduka and was produced as an adult-oriented romantic comedy short.

Its basic premise follows university student Kazushi Sudou and his two childhood friends, sisters Ayane and Kotone Shirakawa. Their long-standing relationship begins to change as everyday encounters make previously hidden feelings increasingly difficult to ignore.

This article does not reproduce the series' explicit material. OceanVeil currently categorizes its Overflow listing as Young Adult / 16+.

Overflow Has Long Had Separate Japanese Editions

Like a number of AnimeFesta productions, Overflow originally circulated in different broadcast and streaming formats.

The on-air edition was broadcast through TOKYO MX and later became available on other Japanese services, while AnimeFesta hosted its own streaming version.

OceanVeil had already made the Japanese version available before the English dub was announced. When Ascendent Animation initially revealed the dub project, the company specifically linked viewers to OceanVeil's free Japanese on-air edition.

For the new English entry, OceanVeil currently lists a 16+ classification.

However, neither OceanVeil nor Ascendent Animation has publicly provided a detailed cut-by-cut comparison explaining whether the dub exactly matches the original Japanese on-air edit or uses another configuration.

OceanVeil Continues Expanding Its English-Dub Catalog

Overflow is not the first localized AnimeFesta-related title to appear through the partnership between OceanVeil and Ascendent Animation.

The companies have already worked on several English releases involving Suiseisha productions, including both older catalog titles and newer SimulDub projects.

Overflow is notable because it is not a current simulcast. It is a 2020 catalog title receiving a new language version years later.

That approach gives older short anime another route toward viewers who prefer English audio while leaving the original Japanese version available separately.

It also shows OceanVeil continuing to build a niche around localized short-form anime that historically had much more limited international availability.

Why This Matters

1) The dub arrives six years after the original anime

Overflow is not receiving a day-and-date SimulDub. Its English version is a localization of an older catalog title.

2) The main trio has an entirely new English cast

Ryan Hoyle, Elizabeth Ryan, and Mana T. Johnson take over the roles of Kazushi, Ayane, and Kotone.

3) OceanVeil is revisiting older AnimeFesta titles

The service is using new dubs to make catalog anime more accessible to English-speaking audiences rather than focusing exclusively on current productions.

4) The release now has a firm date

After the original announcement only promised a launch later in 2026, OceanVeil has now scheduled the dub for August 22.
